My first dress from a vintage pattern: Butterick B4790 Pattern review

As I posted previously , on a recent Fabricland excursion I was thrilled at the discovery of beautiful vintage reissue Butterick patterns. I have made up my first, and inevitably went for the simplest to ease myself in: B4790. I went for the famous 'walk away' dress and am pretty chuffed wit the outcome. Just look at the enormous full circle skirt! I bought 3 meters of 150cm wide cotton and had just about enough with a little to spare. I also bought and used a colossal 9 meters of navy cotton bias binding, and used every scrap :). Total spend: £11.50. Not bad, I am SO excited for the weather to warm up a bit as I will be swooshing this skirt around all summer. As tradition states, the dress was incredibly quick and simple to make. I had to make a size 10(UK) on the waist, but take up the shoulders slightly as the neck was uncomfortably large and loose. I also decided to bias bind the hem as sewing a circle hem that enormous really did not appeal to me. Incredibly

New look 6567: butterfly jersey dress pattern review

And so it continues, blogging dresses made in the last four years :) This is a dress made with comfort as its motivation, but style has not been totally sacrificed as it has little red butterflies printed all over its plain navy base colour. The new look pattern was chosen because I knew I had bought 1.5 metres of this navy cotton jersey and wanted to run up a comfy, soft dress that can be thrown on for work, weekends, travelling, anything that lends itself to comfort really! However having previously attempted to insert zips into jersey dresses with appalling results I wanted one without a zip or waist band that would slip over the head, and so 6567 was chosen based on its long panels running from bodice to skirt. It was the easiest dress I had made in a long time, took a couple of hours, and I would have probably made another but I did not feel it was particularly flattering and was not inspired to try again. Simplicity 1382 pattern review- heart cut-out and triangle cut-out dresses

Here is my little review of Simplicity 1382! Inspiration: I've been seeing lots of interesting backs to dresses recently, and I thought it might be fun to mix it up a little and combine a simple, classic 50s style summer dress at the front with an interesting cut out at the back. Being a girly girl through and through, I also really wants a heart, obvs. Pattern Description: Girls' and girls' plus dresses; sleeveless with heart cutout and contrast skirt option or sleeveless or short sleeved with triangle cutout. Back of bodice buttons and back of skirt zips for easy dressing. Pattern Sizing: this is technically a kids/teens pattern in ages 8-16, but upon reading the envelope the measurement go up to roughly a UK ladies size 12. I erred on the side of caution and made the largest size on the pattern but regretted this as it came out way too big for me and I spent more time adjusting the fit on this pattern than I did actually making it in the first place.
